vine 3 attatched

I had intended to work on something else last night but my finished Susan McCord vine panel #3 was calling to me to attatch it to 1 and 2.

I just can't stop working on this project. All my other projects are suffering neglect.

I've already cut out panel #4 and started preping more leaves :0)

My DD#2 designed and embroidered this handkercheif last week for her friend's birthday. The stitches started out small... :0) I think it is sweet and she's having fun doing handwork. I hope she'll make one for me for my birthday too!!

WISP and whole cloth quilts

I've been sewing. I'm just working away on the same old projects :0) We went camping last weekend and it rained and rained. It was a good chance to do some stitching on my vine. Still working on panel#3.

I've been making a pieced border for another long term project - my Crowfoot quilt. It's been in the ufo pile for awhile and I was thinking of it for my next handquilting project. Here is the link to the last time I posted about it. http://www.mrssewnsew.blogspot.ca/2010/11/lovely-surprise.html

I'm also still making blocks for the Cheddar Posy quilt for my daughter.

At the quilt show there were 2 lovely wholecloth quilts -beautifully handquilted. They were displayed flat on tables. They were folded so it was difficult to get good pictures of them. I would love to make a wholecloth quilt one day.

red and white exhibit

I had been so looking forward to the Red and White exhibit and it did not disappoint. The quilts were all hung inside this red and white barn.

It wasn't quite the display they had in New York but I liked that they hung some from above.

This is an antique quilt owned by the park. I have seen it many times - displayed folded up and I always wanted to see it in full. The different borders were unexpected and fun.

The quilting was lovely as well.

A close up of the block. Between the blocks it was quilted with double lined baptist fans - very fine.

This one was hung sideways - I think because it's so long.

This one had red work with a wonderful setting.

This one had an unbelievable # of tiny hst's in the sashing - just beautiful!

I love the simplicity of this quilt. It looks like it was made to be slept under.

Mine was hung with 3 others. The one above mine was made by a friend from my guild - perfect for Canada Day which is coming up - July 1st.

I couldn't post them all. This exhibit was a lovely addition to the annual event.

It was especially wonderful to see the antique quilts. The hand quilting women did back then is a joy to behold :0)

quilt show

So I promised pictures from the show. It was a beautiful sunny day and there were many quilts hung outside. The historic village is the perfect backdrop. My friend Darlene made this one.

She made this one too with the border blocks contributed by the women in my guild. We made the blocks years ago - it was fun to look for the 2 I made.

This one was just lovely.

I love the blue background of this one. What a happy quilt!

This one was hung up high. The quilts look wonderful draped from the upper balcony of this historic hotel.

My friend Liz made this one. I love the feathered star.

This one was big stitch quilted - it looked great!

Other quilts are draped on fences and clotheslines. The red barn behind the fence was the site of the red and white exhibit. I'll post about that next time. I've a birthday party to plan - it was supposed to be outside but now the forecast is for rain.... :0(

feathered finish... sort of

I was able to take my quilt to the quilt drop off today. The quilt show is this weekend.

It's not completely finished but close enough for display I think. There is a special Red and White exhibit planned and I didn't want to miss out.
I managed to get all the large red triangles quilted but the small squares and triangles will have to wait until I get it back - that's all that's left to do.

The center was my favorite part to do. Drawing the design and seeing it come to life was very fun.

I put the last stitches into the binding last night at 11pm. This morning was lovely and sunny - I had about 10 minutes to get some pictures before taking the kids to school.

Here is how I turned the corner. I used the flower motif from the red squares in the corner and added a couple feathers to "hold hands" with the rest of the border design. The circles filled in the space.

I quilted my initials and the year into the the border as well. This is the 3rd quilt I've done this way. I rarely get around to putting labels on my quilts. (too eager to start the next project :0)

The grass is long and uneven in our back yard - makes the edges look wavy - but it was a beautiful morning and I love the morning light in our backyard.

I am so relieved to have made the deadline and so very ready to work on something else! My Mom is coming to go to the show and my 2 oldest daughters will accompany us. I'll take some pictures to share.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! It is such a beautiful day here today!! My daughters got up early and made me such a lovely breakfast-in-bed this morning - freshly baked muffins even - YUM!

These placemats I made for my Mom for Mother's day. A few weeks back I was wanting to start a new project. This was just the perfect thing to get that out of my system :0) My very talented friend Darlene showed us at our guild night how to make these fast fused, raw edge applique , free motion quilted placemats.
A complete departure from all the needle turn applique and handquilting I've been doing lately. The applique is fused on and then you free motion quilt around the shapes with black thread. It was so fun I had to make 2.

My Mom is from Holland and she just loves tulips. I hope these will brighten her table today since I can't be there to make her breakfast-in-bed.

vine panels with sashing

Finally I have some progress to share of my version of Susan McCord's Vine quilt that I am making with Janet's pattern. It took some time, but I now have my 2 completed panels trimmed and sewn together with the sashing. The panels were not easy to trim as they are so full of applique.



Here you can see the whole thing - so long and skinny. It will take some time to grow this into a full sized top :0)

I just love this project! Only a couple thousand more leaves to go :0) I have only just started panel 3.

I hope to grow my vines more quickly once I finish hand quilting my red and white quilt. With the deadline less than 2 weeks away I need to stay focused only a little while longer.
