the bride

I finished the applique on my Bride block for my Bird of Paradise quilt. This is definitely my favorite block so far - lots of pink :0) I plan to embroider a face onto her. I am currently procrastinating about the embroidery on all of these blocks.
I made a few changes to this block to personalise it - most noticably the hairstyle and color. DD#2 informed me that I do not have orange hair :0) This was the closest I could get to my color of red.
I used a new way to prep the cherries involving dimes, starch and aluminum foil. A friend from my guild had suggested it and I was happy with the results. There is always something new to learn!
Happy Quilting!!

I love this block too! The pink makes it so pretty and I love the hair color.
Are you going to share your berry secret? Or keep it all to yourself? :)

I'm working on this same block right now! I like what you did with yours = so cheerful. :)

I'm making my applique with wool and a cotton background fabric. I enjoy embroidery (and it's a good thing as the edges are taking some time to cover:)

I've seen lots of redheads that were orange-heads! Love this too and would like to know how aluminum foil fits in???

Very sweet. I have heard of the foil technique. Never tried it though.

Beautiful block, Janet! I love how you are personalizing the blocks, and of course, the cherries are adorable. Does using the aluminum foil avoid having to baste around the edge of the cherry and then drawing it up to close? I can visualize kind of pinching it close and then it would get really hot when you iron it. Sound intriguing!
