groom block

It has been a very long time since I had some progress to show for my Bird of Paradise quilt. Finally last night I got back to working on my groom block. This is the first block of 6 that I am personalizing to make this quilt my own. I hope I get better at drawing them - the ideas in my head don't get on the paper easily.Once again I am going to procrastinate about the embroidery. I plan to put on a face and some details to make his coat look more coat-like.

Here he is with his bride. He's supposed to be helping her pick apples. I don't think many will fit in his pail - lol.
Next I plan to work on a block with DD#3 and DD#2 on it. They both want to wear pink dresses and carry pink flowers - oh dear! I shouldn't have asked their opinion :0) I have the flowers and leaves prepped and ready to start this weekend. There will have to be some negotiation over the dresses.

Wishing you a very Happy Easter!!

Your block is gorgeous, love that the groom is helping out with the apple picking. I can see this will be a very personalised quilt.

Your version of these blocks are so charming, and I love how you are personalizing them. What an heirloom!

This is so charming. Your drawing is just fine! One tip to consider... a few quilt teachers (like Ruth McDowell) say to not put in facial features. The gestures suggest smiles, etc. and if the embroidery is not perfect, it can draw the wrong kind of attention. I know that my eyes have already put "faces" on your people!

Beautiful! If you don't like embroidery, you can always ink on details -
I'm glad you are including the grooms block. In the original top he is not there - poor fellow
Happy Easter

I didn't realize that quilting existed in a fantasy world. Perhaps a more realistic depiction (have you really ever picked apples w/ DD#1) could be watching a basketball game. Or eating dry pork ribs? :p

I just love your groom block and really like the idea that they are picking apples as a team! God, I miss this quilt now that it is done...it was so much fun to make, but it is fun to re-live it through your beautiful blocks! Can't wait to see the one with the pink dresses!

In stitches,
Teresa :o)
