a new old project

We've been away - without internet even for a whole 7 days and we survived!  So, there was time to sew :0)

I wanted an easy prep applique project to bring along and remembered my intension to get back to this project.  I started it at retreat in March of 2014.  It is a Kim Diehl pattern from the 2014 April issue of Fons and Porter magazine.  I posted about it here.  Anyway I started the project in Kim's machine applique method but now have switched to hand applique which I love.  This is my newly appliqued block.
I lay it next to the machine appliqued blocks from a couple years ago and they look okay together.  I will make some more blocks before I decide if I want to put both styles of applique into the same quilt.
What do you think?  Would you put hand appliqued blocks next to machine appliqued blocks (appliqued with invisible plastic thread) in the same quilt?  I really disliked doing the machine applique and I won't go back to it but it sure is a lot faster!

While we were away I also managed to make a Star-a-day block everyday :0)  I'm up to these 15 blocks now and I am considering aiming for 365.
They are amazingly portable to bring places which I really like but I don't think I'm getting any better at hand piecing yet.  Oh well, maybe in a 100 or so more stars...

Happy Quilting!!

The applique blocks are so very pretty.

Wow the stars are really coming along. Are you really going to try for 365!?

Love the combination of the 9 -patch and applique and your choice of fabrics - always! Yes, I would include the machine appliqued blocks. In a hundred years maybe quilt historians looking at your quilt will think they were done by a different person.
I still find hand piecing a little awkward. Your stars look very well done to me.

Your applique blocks are so sweet. I bet you could mix the two applique techniques just fine. Love all the different fabrics you're using. Wow! You made a star a day. Wish I could say the same. It looks like they're addictive!

Your blocks are so beautiful! And, if quilters can take lovely hand quilted blocks and machine quilt the whole quilt, why can't you have machine applique and hand applique in the same quilt? I think it will give future quilt historians something to talk about!

I can't see any problem combining your blocks - very clever of you to applique both ways! I love your stars and they look perfectly pieced to me :)

I wouldn't even know where to start with machine applique. The blocks look so similar I think you would put them all in. It's all part of the process,

Your little lemoyne stars are adorable!!
I combine hand and machine applique quite frequently- doesn't bother me a bit, but it is personal preference.

I would definitely put them together. What a cute pattern with that nine patch center.
what a pretty batch of star blocks. I never did succeed at hand piecing

Definitely join them up! It's part of your story of quilting and learning what you enjoy the most!
These blocks are so pretty!

Sure! Combine them in one project. I agree with what Maureen said.
The stars are cute, they do add up.
I know what you mean about no internet = more sewing!!

No internet for 7 days is quite impressive. I think I'd freak out if I didn't have internet for 7 minutes..!

I love the colors in your stars. I'm sure you will be much more comfortable with hand piecing after 100 of them. ;)
