After looking through my books of antique quilts, I decided that the border didn't need any extra quilting around the feathers. I really enjoyed quilting the feathered border and I will definitely do it again.
I also really liked the silk batting. It was very nice to quilt through and made it easier to make small stitches. It is very lightweight but warm. I haven't tried washing it yet and likely I won't until after the quilt comes back from the quilt show at the end of May. I still have one more quilt to finish machine quilting for the same show - deadlines!!! So I think I will use the silk batting again. Hopefully this week I can thread baste my 4 block applique quilt and get started on that. Already I miss having something to quilt in front of the tv in the evenings. NBA playoffs means basketball is on nearly every night around here. :0)
Happy Quilting!!

Oh Janet! Your quilt is gorgeous! Your quilting is beautiful and the feathered border really makes the nine patches look extra special. Well done! :)
Oh my goodness, your work is beautiful! I love everything about this quilt. I love the grey as contrast for the nine-patches, and I love the quilting (is that hand-quilted?). It is stunning. This is the kind of work I aspire to...
It looks beautiful , Janet!!! Well done! Your quilting is wonderful!!
Love the feathering...what a lovely quilt
It's a beautiful quilt and I love what the quilting has done for it. I love feathers. I was interested in the silk batting but I'd love to know how it washes up. Did you think it has a much higher loft than cotton?
Beautiful Janet!! The grey for the background really makes this unique and the quilting.....VERY beautiful!!
Crispy
Amazing, lovely and wonderful!! The hand quilting really makes it and the feathers are outta this world!! Nice job!!
Wow, you finished and it is fabulous. Good luck in the quilt show. You are sure to win a ribbon.
I don't usually wash my quilts before a show either. Just more crisp that way.
Congrats on your finish. It looks great.

hi Janet - love your quilting on this quilt and your blog! I love hand quilting and think it gives it a much nicer look than machine quilting - although I do resort to it sometimes. good luck with exhibiting it.
Oh this is so delightful! You've done a great job with this and I'm thrilled to read you've used silk batting. I'd like to try that myself. :)
I love how the colors POP against the gray background fabric... is that a KONA cotton? if so what color?
Beautiful photos!
