I just love making these blocks - they're so happy. I love that when I have 10 minutes I can pop into my sewing room and make some flying geese and then later do some trimming and before I know it another block is made. :0) I know I want to piece the top with sashing as shown, in the Gone to Texas book the quilt has alternate 12 inch blocks of blue fabric - a small change but one that necessitates figuring out yardage requirements (more math) I'm going to make 16 blocks for a larger quilt.
I've been working on this project again too. I had finished all the flower blocks awhile ago and now I'm piecing them into the big blocks. I have some decisions to make about sashing for this quilt. I think pieced sashing would be too busy. I like the look of the light colored carpet and may just do plain cream sashing. What do you think?
It was not my original intention to put the blocks together this way. You may remember this post where I tried the blocks a bunch of different ways. I was a bit worried about what the center intersection would look like as I hadn't been really careful about the width of the stems. They're not perfect but I think I can live with it.
People around here (not quilters) have been asking me what/who these 2 quilts are for - I tell them "for my entertainment" or "for the joy of making them" because I simply must be sewing something!
Happy quilting!!

great quilts...oh the star quilt I have one started similar to this too...maybe I need to get that out and work on it again, yes scrappy, scrappy, scrappy!
don't you just love looking at all the fabrics?

Both are delightful!! The colours are wonderful. As for the second and what to do..why don't you audition some different fabrics. Maybe a soft colour rather than a stark white might be a good choice. Lay the fabric out and place the blocks on top to test it out.
These are both such wonderful projects Janet. I agree with Jane, some soft color would look nice as sashing...something goldish first popped into my head.

I love your answer when someone asks about the quilts!!
The first quilt is terrifically scrappy and wonderful!!!!
I think for the second quilt a neutral or dark sashing would work. Do what makes you happy!!
Very nice! You have such a good ability to pick the right fabrics.
Really like the quilt!
Gorgeous...your working on simply gorgeous!!!
Wow, the star quilt is stunning! I love your fabric and color choice. It's so lovely!!
I have Gone to Texas. That star quilt is on my To Do List. Just love yours and the other one too.
Have Fun
Cheers

I like the idea of using the cream fabric for the sashing. At first I didn't realize it was on the carpet and liked the look of it! I really like both quilts. I'm like you I have to have something to do with my hands that's creative!
Both of your quilts are wonderful. Your idea of a plain cream sashing for the second one is very good. Maybe add a pieced border? The stems look great to me!
I love both quilts! :)
For the second one I like the light sashing. Maybe use a variety of lights like you used in your block backgrounds? It will let the Star Flower blocks be the center of attention.
oooh! I love your quilts! Especially the first one. I think creme sashing would be nice on the second too!
I'm like you-I simply must sew! My husband questions why there are so many quilt in the house, not even counting all the ones I've given away or made for charity.
Isn't it funny when people ask questions like that? But we get it! Your quilts are wonderful! Your colors are always so right on!
Love those star blocks.
Your flowers are great too. I would definitely be satisfied with the way those stems met in the middle. Great job.
Okay you asked about the sashing, I think a pale blue sashing would look really pretty.
I love your two quilts a lot! I just love stars. I hope you don't mind me putting in my two cents worth but for the sashing, I can see a cream with a small stripe in it.
