Monday night I finished making the blocks for Lori's doll quilt-along Pink Lemonade. They were fun little blocks/partial blocks to sew.
When I went to choose fabrics for this quilt I chose first this pretty bird print by Renee Nanneman for the setting squares. I love this print - I have a big piece of it and I thought with a bit of fussy cutting I could center the birds in the setting squares. I want to use this print but... I think the blocks look boring on it now that I have them all sewn.
So I thought I would explore options.

I like the one with the brown flowers-it really sets off the blocks nicely.
i agree that the plain brown is quite dark but i do like the looks of it. the solid brown squares would be a great space for some gorgeous hand quilting if you went that way. maybe if you tried a brown that "reads" as solid but isn't . . . the effect might not be quite so dark.
i was able to tea/coffee stain a yellow into a mellower shade which seems to look better with the other reproduction fabrics used in my blocks. today i got them cut out and i hope to start sewing them together tomorrow.
hang in there and keep trying fabrics until one really works for you. it was interesting to see how the various choices changed the look of the piece entirely. thanks for sharing the color study.

I would go to the quilt store! ;)
I like the yellow one and the brown with flowers.
Though, I'm more than happy to enable you with a trip to the quilt store. :)
I like your yellow! Maybe a lighter brown would work.
Oh yes...I.LIKE.
My favorite is the first photo or the busy brown print!!
Sorry, but I love the yellow. But since you aren't in love with any of these, I think a trip to LQS is certainly in order!
Like me, You will know it when you see it!!
Love your blocks!!
Your blocks look great! If you aren't in love with any of these then you deserve a trip to the LQS!
The one that really caught my eye was the third one. Since I can't see into your head to comment on your personal vision, I believe a trip to the LQS is in order....any excuse is good :0)

I love the third one...quite girly...but very pretty and sweet. The brown was too dark.
Not being a quilter, I hardly ever comment. But the fourth one is the only one I liked. Otherwise I'd try it with an apple-y green. Something bright, although that's probably even more modern. I love green and pink together.
I actually like the brown, go figure, but you'll know it when you see it.
I like your version with more blocks. Maybe make a full sized quilt...
oh I really love the one with the brown flowers, so pretty....go to the quilt shop and look around and see what else you find, I bet you may just come home and chose one of these!
looks great!

I like the first one and the one you think is too modern.
