I finished my Crowfoot quilt top yesterday. It is inspired by a quilt in Betsy Chutchian's book "Gone to Texas" I thought I'd have finished this weeks ago but... summer is very busy!
I had some trouble with my pieced border. I thought I'd done the math right but when they were sewn up the corners were not going to work. I could have just chopped them off - liberated style -but I wasn't going to be happy with them that way. You can see my solution and I am happy with it.
I had to take pictures outside because it's too large to lay out on the floor in my house without moving heavy furniture. Since it was outside, I thought I'd snap a picture of it with my mostly recovered vegetable garden :0)
Here it is draped over the bed. I wonder how long it will be before it's ready to be slept under? I intend to quilt it by hand. Has anyone thread basted a quilt on a hardwood floor before? I'm worried about scratching it up with the needle. Not that I have a scratch-free floor with 4 kids in the house, but I try not to intentionally scratch it.
So now do I get to start something new?? :0)
Happy Quilting!!

Wow! Janet, you got it all done. I love it. It looks great on the bed. I have a ping pong table that I pin on.
Don't have wood floors either.

Congratulations on the finish, it's awesome. I love everything about it and I think the borders look really good. I'm going to remember that solution.
The vege garden looks like it's producing nicely.

I missed so much during my busy spring that this is new to me. What a gorgeous quilt! The colors are so fresh, Janet. Love it!
I haven't basted a large quilt on a wood floor but I have done one on a long table, starting at the center and working out to the sides. Then flipping it a quarter turn and repeating. That works.

Wow! I love your Crow's Foot quilt. (One of it's more common names several decades ago was Devil's Foot; glad it's been changed.)
Glad your garden recovered too.
If you check You-Tube you can find a couple how to videos of Sharon Schamber demonstrating a very efficient method of hand basting that can be done on tables. I use that method frequently. Good luck!

So pretty! I think your blue sashing really makes it sing. Your border works great IMHO. I just did something similar, I let my cornerstones float...it's all good!

Gorgeous and I do like your solution about the border. I have a top that needs help with the same type of border and I will now be able to finish it.

When I used to baste my quilts on carpeting, I used two sheets of 24" x 48" melamine (the stuff that is used for making kitchen/bathroom counter tops) that were taped together (24" x 96") and used undernearth the quilt so that the needle would not catch any of the carpeting. A 2ft. wide section was worked on and then the melamine got shifted forward and the quilt section that got basted was rolled up. If you have more than one cutting board, you can use that as well.

Wonderful finish, Janet! A quilt this beautiful deserves to be hand quilted. I have only done thread basting on a carpet, so am no help. What about safety pin basting just to hold the layers together, and then draping it over a table to finish thread basting?

Of course you can start something new!!! Lol
Love your interpretation of Betsy's quilt. Congratulations on your finish!
I have only ever basted on a table before. I have heard of quilters using a cutting mat under the quilt and moving the mat around as you baste.
