small new project

The new issue of American Patchwork and Quilting arrived in the mail the other day.  I flipped it open to this project by Kim Diehl and without even looking at the rest of the magazine I went down to pull fabrics from my stash to make it.
This is one quarter of the applique done.  It should be a quick project.  A gift for Christmas. (if I get it done)
The directions are for machine applique but I chose what I find more relaxing - to applique by hand.  I did try one new thing :0)  I basted the straight stems on by machine.  It worked well - I would do it again.  I should try new things more often...

Happy Halloween!

It's lovely. I would needle turn as I find that very relaxing especially right before bed Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

I love Kim Dielh...her stuff has the same effect on me...that "gotta-drop-everything-and-mess-around" feeling...

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

what a lovely design and your fabric choices are luscious!
I prefer hand applique too - and also love to machine baste when I can. I also really like to machine top stitch stems ala gwen marston.

Love what you've started. I always have big dreams when I see something new in a magazine. I'm a hand appliquer too. Have fun!

It's turning out so well. Have you gone back to read the rest of the magazine yet?

So pretty!! I machine applique mostly lately, but have a hard time making stems look good, so I usually hand applique them.

I just found your blog! I have so enjoyed perusing your last few posts! Your hand quilting projects is just lovely. I have the same book from which you chose the quilting designs and I LOVE it! I used many ideas from this book!

Blessings and hugs!
