border decisions

I always appreciate the cool summer evening breezes where I live.  With the window open behind me I can still comfortably quilt in the evenings :0)  I have finished quilting all the blocks for my Crowfoot quilt.
All the sashing in the center portion of the quilt is done as well.  When I lay it on my bed and look down from above it looks practically finished - lol!

However, I still have to quilt the outer sashing around the blocks and the border.  The outer sashing I am quilting the same as all the other sashing.

I'd kind of like to design something special for the corners.  Something feathered I think - to make that big space look like it's there on purpose :0)

And then I have this stencil I'm considering for the rest.  It's not quite wide enough but maybe with some echo quilting to fill in??  I'm also thinking about using cream colored thread so the quilting shows up more.  The light blue that I used for the center gets completely lost in the busy navy sashing print.   What do you think?  It's always great to bounce ideas off other quilters :0)  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Happy Quilting!!

I adore this quilt! I think the stencil you have for the outer border is brilliant and echo quilting to fill in is a great idea. I'd go with the cream colored thread.

Maureen and I are thinking alike. This quilt is wonderful--a definite beauty. I like the stencil, something a bit ornate and curvy to fill in the border beautifully. Echo stitching would fill in the extra space as if it was planned that way from the start, and after all that work, I wouldn't want the stitching to disappear. I vote for cream colored thread as well.

I agree with your plan. Always love to see the quilting, not lost in the color blend. I love the quilt.

Your quilt is so colorful and the quilting is is truly enhancing the beauty. Using the cream thread will really make that stencil show up and you can never go wrong with feathers and a cable.

Love the stencil that you're considering! Just the right combination of a cable and feathers! And with a cream thread, it'll really be fabulous ... and shouldn't detract the eye too much from the fabulous pieced blocks. It's going to be a gorgeous quilt!

It is stunning! Wow, it is really wonderful.
What if you slide the stencil out to the edge - the do something through the squares? Whatever you do, this is a beautiful quilt!

That's been one of my favorite quilts since you started it. It is so beautiful!
I like the idea of white thread, but then again, you still may not see it considering the work you'll be putting into it. What a great stencil!
