a new project

I started a new project. It's a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Wanderlust in the July/August 2014 Quiltmaker magazine.  I like so many of Bonnie's quilts but have never made one.  Every fall when she gets started on her annual mystery quilt I am so tempted to join in but can't quite let go to invest  in something so unknown.
I liked this block when she first showed it on her blog - I think it was her submission for Quiltmakers 100 blocks or something.  Then she made a quilt and it was on the cover of the magazine - tempting me all summer, everytime I walked by the magazines at the grocery store.  After a month I caved... and then this week I started slicing into some fabric.  It's coming out much brighter than I had thought - it seems to have a mind of its own.
I did make one more 6 inch block.  I wanted to use some of this awesome green striped fabric I found - I love it!
And, I received a bag of 9 patches in the mail this week. I took part in a repro 9 patch exchange that Barb organized.  It was so fun to open it up and look at all the fabrics people used.  I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet but I will enjoy considering different ideas.

Happy Quilting!!

I love the Bonnie Hunter squares.....does her pattern suggest the color pattern of different colors on each corner.....This will be a beautiful quilt. Also love the green stripe square.

I love your Wanderlust blocks. I, too, always think I'll join in her mystery, but I'm usually knee deep in several other projects.

I really like all the different fabrics you've used so far in your blocks. The colors appear bight and bold. Should be fun to work on as the days get more cloudy and cold. Love your new green. It's a good one. My little nine patches are wating for me to finish a few things, then I'll be ready to think about what to do.

great new project. Your piecing is so perfect!
I feel the same way about mystery quilts. I was really burned with one many years ago.
I started playing with my nine patches - so fun!

I've resisted mystery quiltalongs (except for the TAW challenge) because I'm too much of a control freak. :-)
I also resisted Barb's 9-patch swap but am slightly regretful after seeing everyone's wonderful selections.

Your Wanderlust blocks are so bright and pretty. :) I've been watching and drooling every year-end, too, when Bonnie's mysteries come out. I'm going to do it this time! I found enough fabrics in my stash, so I feel like it's an acceptable leap of faith. I wish the only yellow with enough yardage wasn't as dull as it is, but I found choices in the other hues that play nice with it, and I'm really hoping that Bonnie's magic will make it all so much prettier in the end!

Oh, those colours are great! And that green fabric is amazing! I have often thought of Bonnie's mysteries but I am hopeless on the machine, so I just watch others do it.
