not my Christmas sewing

It's the season of Christmas making and Christmas sewing.  I can't post about that stuff so looking back I see I haven't posted a couple of things.

I have enjoyed seeing online the Star a Day quilts using Karen Styles' pattern and templates.  I thought it would be the best portable handwork project ever. They're small stars -3 inches finished and I could make hundreds of them.
They are handpieced.  I really believe that I should love handpiecing.  I love handsewing and I am usually okay with fiddly, small pieces.  However, I just don't love it. And I'm not very good at it.
This first star is not exactly square and the centre - ugg!  I'm about 1/2 way with the next star and I did cut a third one out but I'm not sure this is the handwork project for me.  The cutting out of these blocks is sloooow as well.  They are darling little stars though - so we'll see.  Maybe after a few more I will be hooked??
And I was surprised I never posted a picture of my 9 completed pots of flowers blocks.  This project has hit the back burner now because it's got to the machine stitching part - sashing and borders etc...  In the new year I will get back to this.  And in the meantime I am anxious to find a new easy prep applique project  :0)

Happy Quilting!!

Love your sweet little pots! I know what you mean about hand piecing - not something I have taken to either, thought I do enjoy EPP by hand. Hand applique is another matter - somehow so relaxing and satisfying! Hope you find the perfect project :)

Your flower pots will be anxiously waiting for spring, in about 4 months, but that will give you time to get to the next part. Interesting about the hand stitching. I just bought that pattern, but haven t started yet, hoping after the new year. I haven't hand pieced in awhile. We'll see how that goes. Keep going though, for a few more blocks. Everything might just start to click.

Love both those projects, your flowerpots are fun! I have seen more of the one-a-day stars on the internet, think it is a beautiful project, but very small. I can imagine that getting that centre right with such small pieces is hard. Maybe go for a doll quilt?

I need to find another hand piecing project. Your stars look very sweet, but I can see they probably are a bit fiddly.:) Love those flower pots so much!

They are very cute. I made a quilt with 6" stars. I used to love hand piecing but now it's EPP or applique, the piecing just doesn't do it for me anymore. The little pots are very pretty.

Both blocks are sweet. If you aren't enjoying the hand piecing of the stars, then it is best to switch projects.

I used to like simple hand piecing like a tumbling block quilt but not so much any more. I used an Ardco metal template to do that. It allowed me to mark both the cutting and tracing line.

All I do is handsewing, would not know how to use a machine. Not one quilt would get done. Love both of your projects. The little star is way too cute. Enjoy your monday.
